What is the Nature Bowl?

It is a cooperative learning team competition for 3rd through 6th grade students. Questions and activities focus on regional environmental science and issues, correlating with the State Science Framework.
The Nature Bowl serves to reinforce concept comprehension, introduce new information, and motivate students and teachers to further study. Classes become involved in the conservation of natural resources, and in understanding local environmental issues. |

Teams of 3 to 6 students participate in two divisions: 3rd-4th, and 5th-6th grades. Only 3 students participate in any one round, with no more than one team per division representing an individual school.
Each half-day of activates stress teamwork, creativity and critical thinking. Any child is a potential participant for the Nature Bowl. The competitive aspect of the event is deemphasized so all students feel comfortable, achieve success in learning and enjoy the activities. |
Semi-finals will be held in early 1999 at each of the sponsoring sites. Timed rounds at the semi-finals include:

Teachers, parents and principals can serve as coaches. The coaching workshop will introduce the Nature Bowl format and give suggestions for incorporating and improving environmental education in classroom activities.
